While wandering around the mezzanine at work I came across this pallet of boxes labeled Carbon. Upon closer inspection I found out that this is 12k carbon tow spooled to about ~1.5 lbs each. This was a little strange to find at work because the material properties of carbon fiber make it not very useful in the armor industry.
I talked to management and inquired about it’s origin and purpose only to find out that they just want to get rid of it. They acquired the material from a former R&D project that didn’t pan out. Also, The guy responsible for ordering it, doesn’t work there anymore. It’s just collecting dust and taking up space. Then they said that I could have it for a great deal if I could just get rid of it.
Jackpot! They said that I can have it at it’s bulk costs bast on what they originally paid for it. After two years of inflation and a general shortage of carbon fiber, the price offered turned out to be very good.
Now to figure out what to do with it….
